Father-Creator's Word

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."
Titus 2:11-12

Traditions: Self Control

In days past, it was a high virtue for a warrior to possess self-control. It was expected in many areas of his life. During a hunt it was required to be still and quiet. At times it might be necessary to "keep going on" despite little food or water, to suffer winter cold or summer heat. Around the fire, children would be taught not to speak before the elders. They would learn to keep quiet while adults spoke. Even in sexual relations, self-control was expected from a warrior.

How do you receive self-control? It is a gift from the Holy Spirit (Jesus Christ gave you an abundant life of victory). You need to choose to have self-control in your relationship with Father-Creator, and empowered through the Word by letting the Holy Spirit use His Word in your life.

In an age of “I want what I want, and I want it now” and “If it feels good, do it”, this gift from the Holy Spirit is most needed. Self-control is really Holy Spirit control. It is not being ruled by your flesh; such as “doing your own thing” or being controlled by your emotions and feelings. You need self-control when you are: at home, at work, and in your community (clan and nation).

Native News

  • Yurok Tribe welcomes repatriation of hundreds of sacred items - The Yurok Tribe of California traveled to Washington, D.C., to reclaim hundreds of sacred items from the National Museum of the American Indian. The tribe repatriated 217 items, including necklaces, headdresses, arrows, hides and other regalia. The items had been sold to the museum in the 1920s.
  • Northwest Native Men's and Women's Conference - At Muckleshoot Church, October 8-10, 2010, Auburn WA. General session will address issues which our Native churches face today.
  • North Dakota tribes receive $1.8M in grants to battle diabetes - North Dakota tribes and the Indian Health Service received $1.8 million in grants to treat and prevent diabetes. The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians received $729,226. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe received $624,234. The Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation received $452,673 and the IHS in Fort Yates received $50,000. “Diabetes is a huge health problem in this country, and the number of people with diabetes keeps growing,” Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) said in a press release. “I am happy to have been able to help direct funding where it’s needed to combat this serious health condition, and will continue to work to strengthen those efforts."
  • Colvile Tribes praise enhanced court sentencing under new law - The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington will be able to impose longer sentences on offenders under the new Tribal Law and Order Act. The Indian Civil Rights Act of 1968 restricts tribal courts to one-year sentences. The new law allows up to three-year sentences. “Our hands have been tied for so long, for not being able to sentence for longer periods of time,” Chairman Michael Finley told The Wenatchee World. “It hasn’t been beneficial, because we can’t truly punish someone based on the severity of a crime. But now we can."

Walking the New Path
(Lesson 5, Part 2)

Below is an excerpt of the Warriors for Christ discipleship course. Each newsletter we add a new section. Visit our first newsletters on the homepage or email us if you want previous lessons.

B. TEMPTATION

Temptation is when someone, something or thoughts try to get you to do wrong. An action (sin) we choose may seem to give us pleasure, but in the long run it will hurt us. We all have temptations. Even Jesus who is perfect was tempted.

Hebrews 2:18
“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted”.

Hebrews 4:15
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are -- yet was without sin."

Being tempted is not a sin, but if you do the thing - act out your temptations - that is sin. God never tempts us. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to overcome, but we have a choice to allow the Holy Spirit within us to give us victory over sin or we can choose to sin.

2) 3 WAYS OF BEING TEMPTED

The 3 ways we are tempted are by 1). The Flesh 2). The World . and 3). Satan

a) THE FLESH:
We were born with a desire to do our "own thing" - what we want to do. One Christian sister on the Umatilla Reservation called it "the maverick spirit". The "flesh" is the "old nature" that wants to do whatever feels best. Often we desire to eat too much, drink too much, have our sexual desires (wants) satisfied in an immoral way.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God”.

Romans 6:14
“For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace”.

James 4:7
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.

  • “This week's update is with a very sad heart! One of our dear students, 16 year old Donnie… passed away at 5 this morning after he was hit by a car. Third Man” (as he was called) “accepted the Lord about a year and a half ago telling us, "I asked Jesus to come into my heart to stay and all the bad dreams and all the bad stuff went away." Having been deaf since a baby, Third Man was a very innocent young man and believed in the good of everyone, including his parents who have continued to abuse drugs and alcohol …..” Please be praying for the family and the San Carlos reservation. - Susie
  • We talked with a brother up in B.C. yesterday. Please pray for his grandfather, Medric. He is having major health issues, maybe a stroke. Also, pray for Jeremy that he will stay on the Lord's path and grow strong; that the Lord will bring brothers around him to encourage him, and that he will choose Jesus over the World. - Jeremy
  • "Hi everyone I got some bad news today. Last Tuesday I had a cat scan done. Today I got the results. The doctor has given me 6 - 12 months to live. Please help pray and we can prove the doctors wrong. The doctor told me to enjoy my summer because it could be my last. Thank you everyone for being my friends. I love you all. God Bless" - Joe

Warriors for Christ Volunteer Opportunity

Warriors for Christ has two major focuses: Warriors for Christ Online, and Native Discipleship.

Warriors for Christ Online is our ministry through the internet. Besides our website we also now have a Facebook page where almost ten people a day are becoming “Friends.” We have eight great web staff helping with WFC’s internet ministry. The web staff respond to our new “friends” on Facebook with an email, personally inviting them to be involved with Warriors for Christ and contacting those who have sent prayer requests to the prayer circle with a personal prayer and encouragement in God’s Word.

Native Discipleship will provide training for Native Americans at our headquarters. In addition, Regional Directors will be taking discipleship training out to native churches throughout North American (including Canada).

We have several work projects in process to prepare our headquarters for discipleship training. We have the supplies for the “Lodge” that will be used as a: guest bedroom, prayer room, and retreat. Another native ministry, Unity in Jesus, is assisting us in forming a work party to help complete this project.

We need to also finish the “Discipleship Center.” All that is needed is to insulate, sheet rock, and install a wood burning stove. This center will be used for training and we are going to start a Native “Gathering” when it is finished! We need your support to buy these materials.

  • Please pray that as the ministry of Warriors for Christ expands, that the Lord will bring the needed funding.
  • Please pray for staff to come along side Warriors for Christ, who have the same burden for Native discipleship. We need volunteers for: web site, facebook, office support, headquarters maintenance, and illustrator.
  • Please pray for the protection of our web staff, those we are ministering to,our supporters, the Board for Warriors for Christ, and Gordon and Jan Shadburne and family; all have been under great attack in recent days.

"THE PRAYER CIRCLE" - Those that have committed at least once a week, to pray for spreading the Gospel,  to effectively reach American Indians, for discipled native leaders, and the Warriors for Christ staff, Board and regional Directors. We will send you emails of prayer requests as we receive them and will ask you to join WFC staff to pray for these needs, and the ones posted on the WFC prayer board.  To join contact us at www.wfconline.org/contact.htm.

"WARRIOR COUNCIL" - Those that have made a monthly pledge of financial support to WFC.  Just go to http://www.warriorsforchristonline.org/donations.htm to reach our "help page" on the web site and let us know that you want to join with us to help reach our Host people with Christ's love.
